I spent all of August and much of September working on two sweaters, which are still not done. One is Fern & Feather, and the other is Boxy. According to my calculations (which I’m keeping, because this is my next NEWT project) I have done 2400 yards of knitting, and neither of them look very finished yet. F&F is going to be long-bodied and short sleeved. Boxy is short-bodied but very wide and flappy :) with short sleeves, but only because they start at the elbow. You’ll see, hopefully by the end of November.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/553120278/3AF01671-2893-4EC3-BBFE-1AAACCE07496_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/553120278/3AF01671-2893-4EC3-BBFE-1AAACCE07496_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Apart from that, there have been socks and spinning. Nothing awesome, although I really like the colors in this Wren & Ollie sock fibre that I tried:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/549528573/D1D2BA04-CED1-4C4B-80F2-DDAB229E76BF_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="639" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/549528573/D1D2BA04-CED1-4C4B-80F2-DDAB229E76BF_medium2.jpeg" width="319" /></a></div>
<br />
I made red/orange socks out of Wollmeise, that I ended up hating, but Byron took them off my hands. They’re made with my new 64 stitch cylinder, and fit his skinny legs much better. Did I mention that he’s the same size foot as me, now? I donated about 7 pairs of my socks to him, as he suddenly decided he loved knitted socks and wore the same ones for a week! I finished some green ones (mine) and two pair for Mum. I have purple ones for her still to go, but don’t like how the contrast “purple” worked... so I might frog those toes.<br />
<br />
I haven’t actually been finding SCF inspiring these last months. But I just started a prize-fibre I got, which is purple and blue, and will work quite well for some handspun socks, I think, on the new 64-stitch.<br />

<br />
This Astrid, which was my NEWT project (along with spinning all that yarn)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/537235238/A0A01529-CEDD-460A-8C4F-23CE1A4C8EF3_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/537235238/A0A01529-CEDD-460A-8C4F-23CE1A4C8EF3_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/537438173/6F189427-8BC1-4A9B-B6C2-1BD8BB0A6716_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/537438173/6F189427-8BC1-4A9B-B6C2-1BD8BB0A6716_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
And then there was this Mission project - a bunch of Hedgehog sock yarn in speckley colors going from pinkish to greyish. Loved all the knitting (it was all stockinette, as I just did a wrap and turn at the start of the purl sections) and the speckles were kind of fun. There are all sorts of colors in there. But in the end, the purpose was a cowl, and it just doesn’t keep my neck warm at all. And it’s not the loose shawl-type thing I expected when you pull it down, either. I guess I can fix it, but fixing things... that tends to get put off indefinitely.<br />

I’m not generally very good at 2ply, but I’m following some good advice, and twisting it more, not worrying so much about balancing the z-twist and s-twist. Half of my 8 skeins were 2ply! I still prefer Nply, though.<br />

<br />
<br />
This year, for the Tour de Fleece, I bettered my PB and spun 6330 yards (5778m)! I started off with this pile of fibre, thinking it pretty ambitious<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/533011001/EE3F378D-4A64-42D1-B12E-7E396813461C_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/533011001/EE3F378D-4A64-42D1-B12E-7E396813461C_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
but by the end, I’d actually done an extra.<br />

I should be alright! Back in June, I handed in 75%, which was half of the Astrid. I’m loving the grey-shaded fabric, and the double-sided edge cable. But there are a LOT of stitches to knit!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/528169262/5B2EE80F-0838-44D4-92B4-5405EB256F77_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="482" data-original-width="640" height="241" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/528169262/5B2EE80F-0838-44D4-92B4-5405EB256F77_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Zachary has been asking for these for a while. I bought yarn from a destash especially to get the right colors in a sport weight, and they were time-consuming to knit. But he adored them!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/532059713/6634390B-2342-4E47-84FA-7D6630161D04_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/532059713/6634390B-2342-4E47-84FA-7D6630161D04_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/531915320/C1F92230-BA5D-4AEC-A2D7-889501E37CE3_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/531915320/C1F92230-BA5D-4AEC-A2D7-889501E37CE3_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Note the past tense, there. He adored them for about 2 days, and then he lost one. It still hasn’t turned up. Sigh... I have enough yarn to make another one, but have not yet summoned the will power!<br />
<br />
Crank socks! Managed to get two shortish pairs from one skein of Hedgehog (“Goblin”), using a bit of other sock yarn for the heels/toes/cuffs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/529698028/279780AA-C8F5-42A0-8459-F44D1FEBE549_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="240" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/529698028/279780AA-C8F5-42A0-8459-F44D1FEBE549_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I tried a quick and easy project, which was to crank a skein of handspun laceweight through my CSM. This was a 200g 2ply mix of “Time” and “Space”. I loosened the gauge, and had to block it by stuffing it (it was longer and thinner at first) but it turned out pretty nice! It’s certainly soft!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/527705121/897A17BC-E43A-42C0-B91C-2DC195F7D469_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/527705121/897A17BC-E43A-42C0-B91C-2DC195F7D469_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I did manage to spin and knit Jasmine’s new snake for her (though I pretended I hadn’t started it for a while... hehehe). It turned out a bit chunkier than the other green one, but she likes her.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/531386107/1104705A-7F30-4B62-9F50-7F08450DA2ED_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/531386107/1104705A-7F30-4B62-9F50-7F08450DA2ED_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
She’s longer than the original snake, and does look more poisonous, I have to say! :)<br />
<br />
Next post will be all spinning, as the Tour de Fleece has taken over July!<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/525533304/1696A9E0-8ECF-4A40-AE88-35D4A2221F11_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/525533304/1696A9E0-8ECF-4A40-AE88-35D4A2221F11_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Jasmine's been pestering me to do more spinning that's for her, but I haven't started that yet. That's next. She wants a "handspun blue snake" for her birthday. :)<br />
<br />
<br />
It was Byron's birthday last month, though, and he wanted a soft strap cover for his sax strap. I made him some red socks, too, with little black music notes on them.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/522580152/3954EE98-9B4A-4883-9A33-ADFBE9782720_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/522580152/3954EE98-9B4A-4883-9A33-ADFBE9782720_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
11 years old. Crazy!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Here's what I sent my sister for her birthday. Sparkly rainbow stuff. Hehe. If she thinks the socks are embarrassing, she can hide 'em in her boots :)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Coming along are my Mission in Pink, and my NEWT in grey. Long, long, long rows of stocking stitch. Good for watching old episodes of Star Trek. :)<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/519614575/D99578D3-C1E2-4488-9BCC-DE78A74A44FF_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/519614575/D99578D3-C1E2-4488-9BCC-DE78A74A44FF_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
2148 yards of handspun 3ply yarn. It’s about a fingering weight thickness (some thinner, some thicker!) and I’m using it to make the second half of my NEWT, which is basically a poncho pattern named “<a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/astrid-18">Astrid</a>”.<br />
<br />
I couldn’t wait until June 1, so I could cast on something that was Not Grey :) Oddly enough, I ended up with all this green and grey mix. (Spelsau, and some grey 70/30 BFL/Silk)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/521498797/2ECE76C8-3452-46AF-BB6D-99FE122F1023_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/521498797/2ECE76C8-3452-46AF-BB6D-99FE122F1023_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I did spin up a bit more color, though.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/520394498/4C200AEE-557E-4A86-BB73-D4890F6FE099_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/520394498/4C200AEE-557E-4A86-BB73-D4890F6FE099_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Might be one of my favorites so far this year. Not sure what to make with it, of course. It’ll just get added to the stash, as usual!<br />
<br />

Definitely could have used another month for this, because I had to spend 1-2 hours every day on it. But it's pretty cool... double-sided, goes with anything, a bit steam-punk, warm, soft and 2.5m long.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/512713007/1CF9FBED-175F-4E35-8D3F-236EBC8CEE11_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/512713007/1CF9FBED-175F-4E35-8D3F-236EBC8CEE11_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br /><br />
Here's Zac trying to show both sides for me<br />
<br /><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/512713017/0BBC9A8B-693A-4817-9436-80A8A5E2B375_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/512713017/0BBC9A8B-693A-4817-9436-80A8A5E2B375_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br /><br />
And one that shows the middle section (the pipes) a bit better. Man, it's hard to take a squarish picture of both sides of a long scarf!<br />
<br /><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/512713011/81114836-76B3-43EB-A793-47D7F99434BB_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/512713011/81114836-76B3-43EB-A793-47D7F99434BB_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br /><br />
In keeping with the grey theme, I also knit up some little fingerless gloves. The pattern is called "Something Wicked" and fit in nicely with the poem I'm learning this month, which is (a bit of) the witches' song from MacBeth. I thought it would be fun to mutter "...eye of newt and toe of frog..." while I was cooking, or crushing patients' meds with a mortar and pestle. Hehe. <br />
<br /><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/512034901/598CAAB8-7E2C-4319-AAAB-85DFD3DDE1B2_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/512034901/598CAAB8-7E2C-4319-AAAB-85DFD3DDE1B2_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br /><br />
New pattern, too, by Kristin Lehrer, whose podcast I've been listening to.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/512034902/F5AE9C80-999A-436A-8EBE-E989C476AF2A_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/512034902/F5AE9C80-999A-436A-8EBE-E989C476AF2A_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br /><br />
And then there were socks... I'm working on my 4th pair for the month, but these orange ones are my favorites so far. Other two are warm but ugly :)<br />
<br /><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The crazy colored yarn (aptly called Kandinsky )<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/510419380/7AFE5A83-1343-4441-9002-7C16DBA7B35E_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/510419380/7AFE5A83-1343-4441-9002-7C16DBA7B35E_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br /><br />
The current spinning is very blue and calm. And the next NEWT, she is ready to start on April 1. It's going to be a dull and boring month next month!<br />

This year, my one and only New Year’s Resolution is to knit more grey stuff. I find, with my typical short attention span, that I make a whole pile of uncoordinated bits and pieces in a wide variety of colors, and nothing looks good together. Not only am I going to whittle down my clothes to more basic stuff (a 5year goal) but I’m going to coordinate my knitting better. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So this year, grey. Which is probably why I’m currently spinning this: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Hehe. I finished some light grey spinning, and now I have 4. One to go. We also got these two distractions. The ginger one is called Mars, and the grey one (grey!) is Cloud. </div>

This hat is the start of a set. There’s a bit of green in it (Slytherin!) but who cares. I like the folded hem and the green edge, and that Ivy is one of Malabrigo’s nicest greens yet. It was the one and only project I finished for “The Ravellenics” (knitting Winter Olympics, except we’re not allowed to use the O word, apparently.)</div>

Null Hypothesis made it to the 50% deadline, which is finishing chart 4 (of 7). This is well over 300 rows, and I’m still averaging 4-5 rows an hour, so it’s a bit of a daily chore! I’m keeping up, though, and currently working on chart 6. This is the white side after chart 4. </div>

Next term, I’m thinking of a NEWT that begins by spinning 500g of grey. I’m going to be as coordinated as anything! :)<br />

Bendigo Woollen Mills fingering weight cotton goes great through my CSM, as it happens; I had to use it for something, so I made up three long seatbelt covers. Hehe.<br />

<br />
<br />
The only spinning I’ve done so far is this, the third skein of “White Pepper”. I love it, but I didn’t love finding broken bits in the second skein when I picked it up... I’ve got some of those moths, I think, that nibble holes in wool! (I’ll get them!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/497805335/D99D7B80-BA13-40B4-9204-9A63886285D1_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/497805335/D99D7B80-BA13-40B4-9204-9A63886285D1_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Thought I’d use up some handspun and make a quick scarf. For some reason, the warp used a lot more yarn than the weft, and I had lots left over (which is annoying) and the warp colors are really dominant (which is also annoying). Live and learn.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/499439301/09C9A3B7-A373-47CB-BA59-1EF857FC96CD_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/499439301/09C9A3B7-A373-47CB-BA59-1EF857FC96CD_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I was happy, though, because as soon as Zac saw it, he tried to convince me that he’d “forgotten” that he’d meant to ask me for a purple scarf for his birthday... LOL<br />
<br />
Made Nathan some birthday socks again. Because they’re ribbed and knit with two strands of sock yarn held together (for toughness and good fit) I have to do them by hand (unlike Zac’s). This time he got blue, so he has green, blue and brown socks. They take ages to knit; next time, remind me to make them in November, so he gets them on time!<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Zac got blue socks, too. His request was “blue socks with no heels”, so I dyed up some blue variegated yarn. Then I decided to dye some grey, too, and make him two pairs, one blue with grey toes/cuffs and one grey with blue toes/cuffs.<br />

<br />
<br />
For my OWL, I’ve been learning Double-knitting. It’s very, very slow. Basically, it’s two sided knitting, doing both sides at once. Every stitch on the chart is actually a pair; the first is knit as written, and the second is purled with the other strand of wool (ie, knitting on the other side with the opposite color). This is the grey side of chart two, and the white side of chart one. So far so good, except that it’s So Slooooooow. Takes me an hour to do 5 rows, when I’m concentrating and they’re easy rows. Hehe.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/498953106/7D83D947-C0A5-49A6-8861-FBF61E48AD1E_medium.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="500" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/498953106/7D83D947-C0A5-49A6-8861-FBF61E48AD1E_medium.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
And now, for some more of that double-knitting...<br />
<br />
<br />Alrischahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02267747251542712085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-123355146701642402.post-74369470585611985592018-01-26T16:47:00.001+11:002018-01-26T16:49:40.927+11:00GalaThis would have to be my longest running Work In Progress. In spite of me thinking “Chunky yarn vest; should take about 5 minutes”, it’s been going along since October 2012! Of course, the House Cup game, whose deadlines keep me focussed and help me finish most things I start, has been a bit of a hindrance to it. I don’t want to spend hours knitting something that I won’t get any ‘imaginary points’ for. :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/441735674/IMG_6849_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/441735674/IMG_6849_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So it’s been one of those projects that I sometimes pull out in the break month, when I had a break month. And this last December; it finally got finished!<br />
<br />
It doesn’t fit.<br />
<br />
Well, I can wear it, but it’s supposed to be worn loosely. There weren’t “sizes” in this pattern, so I figured using 2 strands of DK held together would “do”. Not so.<br />
<br />
But it fits Jasmine just perfectly, as a warm and heavy tunic top/ dress.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/491512289/5C1CD40F-68B9-488E-8F41-A6444AFD23BB_medium2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="240" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/491512289/5C1CD40F-68B9-488E-8F41-A6444AFD23BB_medium2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/491512267/13AB08EE-338E-4AA0-B81E-ABE444A611D9_medium2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="240" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/491512267/13AB08EE-338E-4AA0-B81E-ABE444A611D9_medium2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
One of the things I liked about the pattern is that there’s no back/front; you can wear it either way. :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/491512261/52B5F099-CFBC-45E6-92D6-856D190E87BE_medium2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="240" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/491512261/52B5F099-CFBC-45E6-92D6-856D190E87BE_medium2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Cheeky thing, pinching my new stuff!<br />
<br />
But, as one of my fellow Slytherins said, it’s probably taken me this long to knit it because the project was waiting for Jasmine to grow up :)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

These socks seem to knit up quickly; there are only 54 stitches to deal with. I did dye up some extra bits, though, to make sure they were long enough. Of course, they ended up a bit too long. Hehe.<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/485373402/38230313-D902-4244-B4E8-0C2BC9580CA4_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/485373402/38230313-D902-4244-B4E8-0C2BC9580CA4_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /><br />
I did finish a couple of them in November, to hand in to the HPKCHC game for imaginary points (Slytherin won the Quidditch and House Cups, by the way.) <br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/485373389/3C6C744C-16C4-4E81-A79A-9954A8EEF85E_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/485373389/3C6C744C-16C4-4E81-A79A-9954A8EEF85E_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/485373384/7B1C0576-3967-4CE6-A7C0-CD4C53C2B217_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="639" data-original-width="640" height="319" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/485373384/7B1C0576-3967-4CE6-A7C0-CD4C53C2B217_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /><br />
And then, when I was running out of time, spun up this quick spin in about a day<br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/485599335/A3FFDC92-6045-4AF5-A5FF-322E89D15FF8_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/485599335/A3FFDC92-6045-4AF5-A5FF-322E89D15FF8_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /><br />
Lovely stuff, that merino/silk. <br />
<br /><br />
This December I'm having a month off from the game. There's a month off every 4th month, but if you do a NEWT, you fill that month with work. So next month I'll start an OWL, and in the meantime I've been finishing socks. <br />
<br /><br />
The red sport weight ones.<br />

<br /></div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
I now have 12 socks in my Box O Sox (which was the goal), though there's another nearly-finished pair. I'm filling up December with unfinished WIPs... and then I can start the year with lots of new stuff. :)</div>

<div style="border-image: none;">
More things from November:</div>

It was So Much Work, and now it's packed away in my "out of season" box for the Summer :)<br />
<br /><br />
So many pretty cables, front and back. <br />

<br /><br />
Although I'm not completely happy with the neck. It was way too big (after the pieces were blocked) so I had to frog some rows of the front shoulders, and now it's a bit uneven (front to back). Plus my seaming leaves a lot to be desired... but it is warm!<br />
<br /><br />
<br /><br />
Speaking of warm, this!!<br />

And, of course, I found time for a bit of spinning...<br />

Next project, apart from WIPs, is going to be a strange double-knit one that should be both fun and infuriating :) called "Null Hypothesis". <br />

LOL. So, here are some of the things I made back in September and October.<br />
<br />
Another little Milo (from one of the Wren & Ollie yarns I got in Bendigo)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/476851160/2952B83A-860A-4EAB-8056-AA67432E2C06_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/476851160/2952B83A-860A-4EAB-8056-AA67432E2C06_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
An N4ply mix of Faulkland and Cheviot (hehe)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/469667768/IMG_9976_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/469667768/IMG_9976_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A 3ply mix of BFL and mohair<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/477028691/3CA3A977-FC7F-4172-AF2A-5D041E05FB0D_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/477028691/3CA3A977-FC7F-4172-AF2A-5D041E05FB0D_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A fat skein of Spelsau<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/474840589/F3CC9D19-D581-4AB4-8164-29DAD4CF1484_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/474840589/F3CC9D19-D581-4AB4-8164-29DAD4CF1484_medium2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Some finished socks<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/473681726/IMG_0374_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/473681726/IMG_0374_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/467949509/IMG_9794_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/467949509/IMG_9794_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A bit of a set, using the Inolvidable bulky Malabrigo from Bendigo that looked much better in the skein :S<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/473036325/IMG_0266_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/473036325/IMG_0266_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A mash-up spin of several different bits and leftovers<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/472076668/IMG_0207_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/472076668/IMG_0207_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This little spin (love this colorway: Primordial)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/471507100/IMG_0196_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/471507100/IMG_0196_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

To my surprise, I quite like the colors (although the whole time I was knitting them, I thought they didn't really work so well together) and the yarn is softer, after a wash, than I thought it would be.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/460628621/IMG_8726_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/460628621/IMG_8726_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It's almost 800g, and, as per instructions, touches the ground both ends with a loop that also reaches the ground. Of course, it's not practical to wear it like that.<br />
<br />
This is how I'm mostly wearing it (and I've worn it a lot since finishing it). Basically, it just wraps around lots, so I can walk. I normally fold it in half (so the right sides are out) and wrap it around my neck twice and tuck the ends through the fold (a la Sherlock). It still hangs down to my knees :) and feels like I've got a blanket wrapped around my shoulders.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/460628620/IMG_9009_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/460628620/IMG_9009_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Kept track of all those stripes (over 1200 rows) in my bullet journal. Very helpful!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/460628322/IMG_9087_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/460628322/IMG_9087_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/460629108/IMG_8729_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/460629108/IMG_8729_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Blocked it by soaking it, and hanging it over the garden shed. It went from about 4.5m to about 6m :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/460974092/IMG_8512_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="427" data-original-width="640" height="213" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/460974092/IMG_8512_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />

<br />
Love it. It's so long!<br />
<br />
Current NEWT is going along very slowly. I decided to choose a subject I'd avoided in all my 8 OWLs and 11 NEWTs so far: Herbology. This one involves cables, and I know that, although I can do them, they're very slow and tedious for me. So I set myself a jumper with lots of cables :) just to prove to myself that I can.<br />
<br />
The NEWT committee volunteers didn't think one cabled jumper was big enough for a NEWT (although I did) and requested just a little more... so I first made a cowl for Nathan and spun up about 650y of merino/rose 3ply. As for the top, I have the sleeves done and about 80 rows of the back.<br />
<br />
I'm only just keeping up! <i>Cables! </i><br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/460430927/IMG_8712_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/460430927/IMG_8712_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The one on the left is "Wonder Woman" yarn that David from SCF dyed up, just to show us how he used pictures as inspiration. It matched my Ravatar at the time (which someone made me) and was also a prize :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/470050795/IMG_7926_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="475" data-original-width="640" height="237" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/470050795/IMG_7926_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Hehe. Of course, right in the middle of the TdF was the Bendigo Wool Festival. After last year, I decided I wasn't going back. There were too many non-yarn stalls and already-knitted things, and not enough different fibres (ie all merino and alpaca), hardly any interesting fibres, and frankly, things were cheaper on the internet. Also, I felt a bit sick, and that my stash was out of control.<br />
<br />
This year, though, Jacki (another knitter from work) persuaded me to give it another go. I went, on a sunny Saturday, just after doing the tax return (ie with money in my pocket) and a determination to buy just whatever I felt like.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/470051631/IMG_8377_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="240" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/470051631/IMG_8377_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Had a great day! Ended up coming home by about 5; took this picture in Creswick on the way past. I got lots of sock yarn, some Soak, some needles, a bit of fibre, and some DK and chunky yarn. :)<br />
<br />
(More pictures on Instagram; I'm alr1scha on there)<br />
<br />
I've already spun up one of the fibres (the one on the right, above) and knit up the green speckley DK yarn. It turned out to be perfect for the project Jasmine asked for for her 9th birthday. Very scaley. :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/461930951/IMG_9197_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/461930951/IMG_9197_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/461930961/IMG_9187_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/461930961/IMG_9187_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Hehe. It's called "Dugite" or something. Only the head is stuffed; the rest is stockinette stitch that just rolls in on itself sideways (which makes it very floppy and bendy, more snakelike than a stuffed one) and she's surprisingly proud of me for making it. LOL.<br />
<br />
And now I'll sign off (because Blogger is being annoyingly iPad-incompatible and jumping to the top of the screen every second letter I type (very flashy and irritating), and my computer is being too slow). I've been slack with my blog because, frankly, everything's on Ravelry :) but I'm on holidays from work, and so I'll add a smaller post more often :)<br />
<br />
Next time: my latest OWL and my current NEWT...<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
This one was for Quidditch: a colorway I thought was very Gryffindor. It's actually Finn/Rose by Kathy's Fibres, and the colorway is called Nomad. Loved it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/455229706/IMG_8001_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/455229706/IMG_8001_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And then a bit of plain grey (SCF "Cast Iron"), which was surprisingly enjoyable to spin<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/454351609/IMG_7896_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/454351609/IMG_7896_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Just as well, because I may have bought a kilo of grey fibre from SCF on sale ;)<br />
<br />
Whipped up a cowl and some hats on my Addi King Express (a little finishing required)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/451121141/IMG_7643_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/451121141/IMG_7643_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/455587399/IMG_8045_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/455587399/IMG_8045_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Then I used my sock machine to crank up some socks for the Box O Sox. Looking forward to this Christmas present :)<br />
<br />
Handspun <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/455587314/IMG_8044_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/455587314/IMG_8044_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Matchy opposite socks<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/455284571/IMG_8018_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/455284571/IMG_8018_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/455284475/IMG_8020_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/455284475/IMG_8020_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I thought I'd try some Felici Worsted sock yarn (which is fairly new) and made some fat Jaywalker socks with it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/453654493/IMG_7838_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/453654493/IMG_7838_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My Mission took lots of my hours this month, but I'm not getting any closer to the end. It's a laceweight garter stitch black hole! I think I'll finish it one day... but probably not in July.<br />
<br />
July is for Spinning!<br />

<br />
May (which was a little while ago, now) was all about handspun. As planned, I did make a dent in my handspun stash. As well as destashing a bit :) I used handspun for 3 classes, Quidditch, and the Headmistress Challenge.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3yph_W4rMjPlX0H2r0fFieUnTOxT4eH-BnGA8-S56lB89cUGJJr5gRGpVX8qQE-diB4GfYtnw0ldjVKAd673YMyUfFJFMYjSnHQG-DBylmbyU24G5ikXjy9lc28zLbKaOwXHckQbxauoP/s1600/spinknit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="398" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3yph_W4rMjPlX0H2r0fFieUnTOxT4eH-BnGA8-S56lB89cUGJJr5gRGpVX8qQE-diB4GfYtnw0ldjVKAd673YMyUfFJFMYjSnHQG-DBylmbyU24G5ikXjy9lc28zLbKaOwXHckQbxauoP/s400/spinknit.jpg" width="316" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Two other classes were for family birthday presents, and not handspun.Socks for Kelly and earflap hats for Byron (that's what he <i>wanted</i>!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/449949215/IMG_7525_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/449949215/IMG_7525_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/448256776/IMG_7191_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/448256776/IMG_7191_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/448027062/IMG_7124_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/448027062/IMG_7124_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Then there was a bit of detention, a bit of dyeing for Q, and about 2m/400g of this Doctor Who scarf for my OWL<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/452173386/IMG_7594_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="240" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/452173386/IMG_7594_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Surprisingly fun, just going backwards and forwards. I'm not looking forward to weaving in Ends, but I'm looking forward to wet-blocking it nice and long!<br />
<br />
And then, well, I may have spun a little... It's hard to resist :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/450750562/18812403_1140314196073698_4413558494163107840_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="640" height="400" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/450750562/18812403_1140314196073698_4413558494163107840_n_medium2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />Alrischahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02267747251542712085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-123355146701642402.post-44160345552909819972017-04-27T11:38:00.001+10:002017-04-27T11:42:25.845+10:00RestThis month I'm having a rest from deadlines. The HPKCHC game gets a bit competitive towards the end, especially, and you begin to feel that you <b>have to</b> knit every spare minute, which does take a bit of the fun out. (We Slytherins came second in the House Cup, by the way, and won the Quidditch Cup!)<br />
<br />
My goals this month, therefore, were to get three cranked sock tubes up to "almost finished" (so that I can finish them for "Detention" for 10 points).<br />
<br />
I have these ones, which need the heels kitchener-stitched closed<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/444528440/IMG_6924_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/444528440/IMG_6924_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And these ones, which have a few ends to sew in<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/444528441/IMG_6922_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/444528441/IMG_6922_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And these ones, which need the hemmed picot cuff stitched down (and then I'll re-dye them! The yarn looked pretty in the skein and horrible knit up!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/444528442/IMG_6923_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/444528442/IMG_6923_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
By the end of July I should have 4 pairs of socks in my Box 'o Sox, at least.<br />
<br />
My other goal was to knit a chunk of my Gala top from 2012. I'm up to about 200g/35cm here, and should be up to 40cm by the end of the month. (Nothing else to knit!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/444528998/IMG_6928_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/444528998/IMG_6928_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Plans: <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/444427323/IMG_6925_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/444427323/IMG_6925_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I love spinning; it's easy, relaxing and gets lots of points. But my box of handspun is overflowing, so I'm determined to knit up a lot of it. Two of my Ravelry friends and I have started a thread to encourage others to knit their handspun, too. I'm not sure I'll get through all this in 2 months, but I'm going to get through some of it, at least. I'm even planning a laceweight shawl that finally uses my Nobby laceweight (on the right, there).<br />
<br />
As for July, well that's Tour de Fleece, so I'm going to undo my hard work, basically, and refill my handspun box! :)<br />
<br />
Another Rav friend made me this. LOL. I think I'll change my Ravatar...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/444530914/ww_medium.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/444530914/ww_medium.jpg" width="256" /></a></div>

But this month, I'm having a break. Decided it was time to pull out a WIP from 2012 and do a bit of work on it :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/441735674/IMG_6849_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/441735674/IMG_6849_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This was supposed to be a quick knit, but of course, things went a bit sideways. I've finished one side, and just this month started side 2. Sad, eh? :)<br />
<br />
Of course, I immediately got distracted. I spent an afternoon fighting with my CSM, and changed it back to fingering weight settings and 72 stitches. I cranked these sparkley tubes out!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/441180805/IMG_6809_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/441180805/IMG_6809_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/441180806/IMG_6810_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/441180806/IMG_6810_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Plan to almost-finish all of them, and use them for 10-point detention projects in May, June and July. I can't wear them yet, anyway; they're for my Box-o-Sox project. There are a bunch of people doing the same as a big Knit-along, and the idea is to make 12 pairs of socks and then give yourself a box full of new socks all at once. Christmas present :) I only have one pair in there so far, but it's this NEWT pair:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/441180819/IMG_6680_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/441180819/IMG_6680_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
which worked very well, and fit well! There were so many ends to sew in, but I like them lots.<br />
<br />
There wasn't much of March left by the time those devils were finished, but I did finish off this Pashmina hat (which was basically a travel-hat for when I needed simple knitting)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/439579966/IMG_6755_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/439579966/IMG_6755_medium2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
and a bit of spinning, which is still the quickest way to get Yards (and therefore points) in the game.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/440266819/IMG_6776_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/440266819/IMG_6776_medium2.PNG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I used two matching singles (of SCF merino/cashmere/silk in "Big Sky" and "Dark Sapphire") and made as much 6ply as I could fit on my espinner bobbin. Then I n-plied the rest. Next term I'm helping run a thread about *using* handspun up! I have an overflowing box (or two) of handspun, and I don't actually knit with it much. I'm planning to use handspun for lots of classes next term.<br />
<br />
As for my OWL, I'm doing Defense against the Dark Arts. One of the options is to study the cruciatus curse by doing something painful, and this is what I picked.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/441394910/17818920_1387471244608672_6414843229228761088_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/441394910/17818920_1387471244608672_6414843229228761088_n_medium2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Well, this is my bullet journal, but the project is the season 18 Doctor Who scarf. I never watched the old seasons, and don't think I even knew about the famous multicolored one that Doctor #4 wore, but this version, the purple/red/orange one, got my attention in the first Christmas episode of the new Doctor Who. It was David Tennant's first whole episode, and he spent most of it in someone else's pajamas :) but at the end, when he was choosing his outfit, he threw on this scarf as a test, and I immediately thought, "Oo, I like that scarf!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.assignmentx.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/06DrWhoXmasList1-300x164.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://www.assignmentx.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/06DrWhoXmasList1-300x164.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Didn't realize it was about 20 feet long! Anyway, it's 1272 rows, and each row is going to be 50 stitches (as I'm using thinner yarn that the pattern). I'll knit the whole pattern, regardless of how long it is (mine will probably end up a little shorter... thinner yarn) but it's still pretty OWL-worthy, at 60,000-odd stitches of endless garter stitch in a non-repeating color pattern.<br />
<br />
Can't wait to start! Hehe.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
I've made a couple of sets from the FlyBuys Madelinetosh, and some random bits in a blue/teal that's not finished quite yet. <br />

<br />
I like this twisty pattern, which is basically 4x4 rib on 71 stitches, so that the rib shifts over one stitch every round.<br />
<br />
I spent a bit of February sanding and painting a new little cubby for the kids, and made it some little woven curtains.<br />

<br />
All I've done so far this month is finish these bright socks,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/433791400/16906457_838744996266508_8211188033488158720_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/433791400/16906457_838744996266508_8211188033488158720_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
spin this greenish rambouillet/silk, called Allium<br />
<br />

and work on my last NEWT project, which is a pair of colorwork socks called "Irish Dream". I've finished one sock (although sewing in the ends will probably take an hour) and I'm hoping I have time to finish this second sock in the next week.<br />

Sorry I've been a bit slack over here, but lots of stuff has been made, for such a shorty month, and most of it only finished recently. :)<br />
<br />
NEWT<br />
<br />
For the third quarter of my Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test :) I made up the pattern "Green Memories". It's a colorwork hat, with matching armwarmers in three of the hat colors. I used Madelinetosh Pashmina for the grey, but the other colors were a set (Lorna's Laces String Quintet) in a colorway called "Newt's Suit". (It's based on the colors he was wearing in the movie "Fantastic Beasts..."). They're a little big on Byron, but he does the serious pose so well... hehe<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/431992425/16789790_1202027916584978_8817707329161003008_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/431992425/16789790_1202027916584978_8817707329161003008_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Last thing to do for the NEWT is a pair of colorwork socks, which I'm going to start next, when I've finished the socks I'm on.<br />
<br />
SOCKS<br />
<br />
Got out the CSM in the middle of the month, and in one afternoon, cranked 1500 yards of sport weight sock yarn. (Don't have much of that; wish I could trade my fingering weight for lots of it, though!). Then, as I flunked out of CSM school ;) I had to handknit on the toes, cuffs and heels.<br />
<br />
These green ones, from yarn I dyed in Jan... hmmm... it occurs to me now that I haven't been here for <i>quite a while</i>. I did make some things in January, too. Here's January's dyeing and February's socks from it. Basically, I just threw it into a pot of green and sprinkled on a bit of blue and yellow...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/426675854/IMG_5834_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/426675854/IMG_5834_medium2.PNG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/430618268/IMG_6052_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/430618268/IMG_6052_medium2.PNG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I finished up these ones. These are maybe my favorite for the month, made of Trekking 6ply, so nice and tough, with the heels and cuffs in a different colorway of the same yarn.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/430898898/16583241_1823130727940895_663003063417569280_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/430898898/16583241_1823130727940895_663003063417569280_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Also made socks from that heel yarn :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/432935104/IMG_6157_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/432935104/IMG_6157_medium2.PNG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Then I knit these ones. Handmaiden Casbar. Merino/cashmere/nylon that I've had in my stash since 2011. It's very silky-feeling, and thinner than the other "sport weight" yarns. I tightened the tension on the CSM a click, but they still seem like socks that would wear holes in a month.<br />
<br />
Oh well. They can be my "sitting on the couch" socks :)<br />
<br />
They're very long, but I'll just bunch them around my toasty, warm ankles like this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/432935101/IMG_6158_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/432935101/IMG_6158_medium2.PNG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I haven't finished the 5th pair, yet. They're eye-searing pink and orange (I was originally planning colorwork with black for this yarn) but why not? They'll be in my shoes. lol.<br />
<br />
I did make Zac some new socks, though, which he wanted for his birthday. Dyed and knit back in January. Inside 24 hours. You know, just for the challenge. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/423977606/IMG_5530_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/423977606/IMG_5530_medium2.PNG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/423978311/IMG_5529_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/423978311/IMG_5529_medium2.PNG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And I made these ones for Nathan's birthday, handknit from top to bottom. Two strands held together, so it should have been much quicker than it was!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/421327567/15803159_402793366719345_8249222026183573504_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/421327567/15803159_402793366719345_8249222026183573504_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
SPINNING<br />
<br />
These two were made from two bumps of SASF, both of which were a green and purple mix that I couldn't see myself using. (Love David's fibre, but green and purple? Not for me.) However, it finally occurred to me that I could just pull the purple/blue bits out of both, and leave the green/blue bits for another skein. Worked great, almost 50/50!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/426676056/16228586_124190361427583_4227116588068765696_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/426676056/16228586_124190361427583_4227116588068765696_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Also split up a very brightly-colored skein that I wasn't sure how to spin into mini skeins of different colors. As the original colorway was called "Hell Broth" (from Macbeth), I called my mini skeins "Wool of bat, tongue of dog, eye of newt and toe of frog". hehe.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/428925105/IMG_5953_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/428925105/IMG_5953_medium2.PNG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Tried to spin thickly, but still got pretty much 3ply sport weight.<br />
<br />
This one I didn't like much. I love the "Primordial" colorway, but for the class I had to spin a 2ply. I'm not so good at those, for some reason. Maybe it needs a bit more twist...?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/429577347/IMG_6003_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/429577347/IMG_6003_medium2.PNG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And for Quidditch, I spun up some more thick Nply, that ended up... maybe DK weight.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/431998722/IMG_6132_medium2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/431998722/IMG_6132_medium2.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
There were a few other projects in there, mostly things for the Soup Bus. Might add them to the collection for next time! :)<br />

Middle of Summer. No school. Swimming, playing and relaxing...<br />
<br />
<br />
It's still the middle of Summer, and school holidays, but there's not a lot of relaxing when you're the mum! I've gotten used to having those 6 hours off (when I'm not sleeping after work) and now those hours are full of noise. And fighting. And requests! We made a deal that they could have a "late night" every second night, and when those monkeys are finally in bed, I find myself falling asleep on the couch. We aren't going away on a trip or anything, but I'm trying to do a few fun things with them. After all, I want them to love January as much as I used to. <br />
<br />
<br />
Still, I did get this thing done:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/422775642/16110088_1088765734582815_2960815853882310656_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/422775642/16110088_1088765734582815_2960815853882310656_n_medium2.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It ended up just over 1000y, and used a skein and a bit of each color. It's an odd shape; the edge on the top there, where I did all the color changes, is curved (probably because it's got less stretch), and the cast off edge (white) is icord, and the other side is stretchy but shorter. I have no idea how to wear it, and I couldn't figure out how to block it, but it's going to be squooshy and warm.<br />
<br />
<br />
Where I ended up blocking it: <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/422775640/16122693_611290732389544_6133952810451992576_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/422775640/16122693_611290732389544_6133952810451992576_n_medium2.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I love the colors; they're all very wearable, and the "white" was really a very speckley multicolored thing. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/421864449/15876791_1063063337156660_7588093685925937152_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/421864449/15876791_1063063337156660_7588093685925937152_n_medium2.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Pattern: Drachenfels. Yarn: Madelinetosh Sport (with a little Pashmina here and there)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And I finished some spinning :) This is the South African Superfine from last post, spun into 870y of 2ply. I have to do another 130y for the Charms requirement in my NEWT, but that's no great drama. I love spinning this stuff. My colors didn't line up at all! I'm still a newb. LOL.<br />

It was 36 degrees Celcius here today. It was fried turkey and bbq steak, and lots of cold salads here today. <br />
<br />
<br />
Not much knitting happens in the "break" month, unless you're one of the crazy people doing a NEWT. This current one is my 11th, and I'm having fun so far.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/413997527/15338491_1624300604530189_5187404308324286464_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/413997527/15338491_1624300604530189_5187404308324286464_n_medium2.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This is where I ran out of blue. I ordered some more, though, and it came from Jimmy Beans in about 10 days. The pattern is Drachenfels, which is a big, stripey, 3-color garter stitch shawl/scarf. (It's a triangle, but I kind of hate calling them "shawls" because it sounds old-fashioned. A scarf that's pointy-ended and thick in the middle: that's better. Hehe)<br />
<br />
<br />
I've almost finished the laceweight spinning<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
There was only a teeny bit of fluff left, today, but I had to go to work. <br />
<br />
<br />
In the days I was waiting for yarn, when I was out and about, or not in the mood for spinning, I knitted up this hat. According to NEWT schedule (where we have to say what we'll make for 50%, 75% and 100%) it's part of the 75% section, but oh well; it's finished early :)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/416581197/15624363_718322778321778_7016230382580269056_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/416581197/15624363_718322778321778_7016230382580269056_n_medium2.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have to finish the Drachenfels and spinning for 50%, and this hat and matching armwarmers for 75%. Also, this boy :) wants a jumper <strong>and</strong> socks for his birthday, and I thought I'd just whip up another pair for Nathan, too, since he wears his wool socks all the time (except on days this warm).<br />
<br />
<br />
Kids are on holidays, now, and Christmas finished about an hour ago. Byron bought me some old Doctor Who, which he plans to watch with me :) so Drachenfels (perfect TV knitting) should be done before the DVD's are finished. The spinning should be done in a few days (around work) and hopefully those socks, between Jan 1 and 5. (yikes).<br />
<br />
<br />
Internet has been off at our place all week. Actually it's been about 10 days. Sometimes we can get a minute by rebooting the modem, but other than that, no internet and no phone, and mobiles don't work well where I live. So I'm internetting at work, when it's quiet. <br />
<br />
<br />
Happy Christmas, crafty ones. Hope your Christmas knitting is all done :)<br />

Look at these two, having a modeling competition. :) At the moment, if I say, "who wants to be my model for a photo?", I get eager volunteers. I'm sure they think getting their picture on Ravelry is the height of fame! LOL<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Fingering weight woven scarf</td></tr>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Finished the handspun, which is the merino/bamboo I got from Moseley Park's stall at Bendigo this year. I tried to spin it thickly, and then used it for the warp of a wide scarf, alternating yarns across the warp to mix them up.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/410355508/15048074_1505077646175041_5529893195304927232_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/410355508/15048074_1505077646175041_5529893195304927232_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Jas, volunteering eagerly as usual, but not really feeling well enough to actually smile</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Then, for the warp I used laceweight, which I've done before. Turns out very squishy :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/410355480/15043670_204879363286491_8439334334019665920_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/410355480/15043670_204879363286491_8439334334019665920_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
This is the 8th scarf for the year. Planned to weave 12, but 8 is not too bad.<br />
<br />
And this one, which is called "3-color cashmere cowl" is my fleece-to-finished-object part of my NEWT. It started off as a dirty Polwarth fleece, and I washed, carded, spun, dyed and knitted it. I think the knitting took as long as all the other parts! It's 550y of fingering weight, and I'm not a fast knitter.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/412232706/14482301_1289979154375036_2762705492307345408_n_small2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/412232706/14482301_1289979154375036_2762705492307345408_n_small2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Nice to wear, though. It really bunches up around your neck, and the polwarth is pretty soft.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/412585276/15305913_102798653545851_6038866297557614592_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/412585276/15305913_102798653545851_6038866297557614592_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
This one will get the most wear, though. It's all the handspun BFL/silk that I spun for the last NEWT and knitted up for this NEWT. The top is long, and the hem is very wide rectangular shape, which falls nicely and fits well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/412585264/15306022_1810005802609927_6293870025023422464_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/412585264/15306022_1810005802609927_6293870025023422464_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Well, that's my tenth NEWT finished, and I'm already started on my 11th! This next one is four projects and a spin (Muggle Studies: make a coordinated ensemble for a Muggle/ Charms: spin 1000y of finished laceweight). There's a shawl, hat, armwarmers, socks, and spinning, all with blue/green/brown colors that seem to be my favorites at the moment. :)<br />
<br />
Next term I have plans to make Soup Bus Sets (maybe hat/handwarmers/cowl), and more CSM socks. I'm a bit sick of weaving, but I still want to have 365 different pairs of socks in the drawers :D<br />
<br />
<br />

That's still a lot of yarn, of course, about 250 x100g skeins. But it'll be all nice. Which is why I didn't much hesitate to add these :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/388198086/image_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/388198086/image_medium2.jpeg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
"Tour de Frak" and "I am a bicycle in the Wind", Chameleon Sock by IndigoDragonfly. She donated the money raised to the Yarn Harlot's bike team in the last "Friends for Life Bike Rally" (where the team rides over 600km to raise money for HIV). It's merino/cashmere/silk fingering weight yarn, in two slightly different shades of purple. Very soft!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/408361620/IMG_4119_medium2.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/408361620/IMG_4119_medium2.PNG" height="116" width="320" /></a></div>
I got these three lovely yarns from Jimmy Beans, destined to be together in some sort of scarf or shawl. And also from Jimmy Beans... well, I'd saved up my FlyBuys for some time, apparently, because I cashed them in and bought<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/408190650/14736199_642559689247210_718413377101103104_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/408190650/14736199_642559689247210_718413377101103104_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
10 skeins of MT chunky. As usual, FlyBuys yarn is for charity, since my sister and mum both contribute to my FlyBuys points and it's like free money but also a gift. I'm hoping to make some sets of things, rather than just hats this time, because the lady at the Soup Bus said, when I asked if they donated to many women, that they gave to a women's refuge, often, and last time she gathered together a hat, scarf and mitts that 'sort of matched', and the woman was really happy to have them. So I thought I'd make some stuff that matches properly. I'm not sure I can get a hat and fingerless mitts from one 165y skein, but I might be able to make two sets from three skeins or something. We'll see.<br />
<br />
I got some Wollmeise in a destash. These are destined for weaving, I think.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjllHIyVwfU5WGE26XkVYuQFLP9j1ZwFXFRtn9EREMtqZNaUkxRG7Vw20qDSA14NQeucaT1Q_X5h4B4jD-FC-0qmyPbcdRdE4UZ69ovN3YAjJbSqCdbjSoaQkaXwjS8edfEd_mYPtNCajDA/s1600/w.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjllHIyVwfU5WGE26XkVYuQFLP9j1ZwFXFRtn9EREMtqZNaUkxRG7Vw20qDSA14NQeucaT1Q_X5h4B4jD-FC-0qmyPbcdRdE4UZ69ovN3YAjJbSqCdbjSoaQkaXwjS8edfEd_mYPtNCajDA/s320/w.JPG" width="186" /></a></div>
And that's the new yarn stash. I did also finish the socks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/406353243/14719538_333102137046926_5659120798372200448_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/406353243/14719538_333102137046926_5659120798372200448_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
These are for Jasmine, who hasn't worn hers yet, because, would you believe, she didn't want to wear them until they were washed and blocked "like you usually do"...<br />
<br />
And these are Zac's, who, being completely opposite to Jas, wouldn't give them back after trying them on for "heel placement". So they don't have heels (which he seems to love) and I had to steal them from his room after 4 days to wash them! Hehe.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/406563793/14712159_208644699566846_5861068880729866240_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/406563793/14712159_208644699566846_5861068880729866240_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Also finished this cowl called Armonika, with 2 skeins of MT vintage in "Roasted Hatch Chiles". I could knit with that colorway for a year! It's a simple 4-row repeat, and it folds inward, accordian-like, which makes it sit in a thick, warm layer. Especially if you double it, like this <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/404682954/14705051_1714424538885186_1442825406175510528_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/404682954/14705051_1714424538885186_1442825406175510528_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/404688729/14718175_1093606217426588_6664162082147008512_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/404688729/14718175_1093606217426588_6664162082147008512_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I've been wearing this one a lot :)<br />
<br />
Also made three cranked hats for the Soup Bus with BWM rustic 12ply. Not the softest yarn, but it goes through the Addi very well. They seem to take about 2 hours each :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/406958132/14676755_330336974009929_3252402278824411136_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/406958132/14676755_330336974009929_3252402278824411136_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
And I finished spinning this 200g of 3ply fingering weight yarn from the Polwarth Fleece I got at Bendi, just in time for the 75% NEWT deadline.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I'm knitting it now, after dyeing one skein light green and one dark blue, into the 3-color Cashmere Cowl. It's very simple and time consuming! I'm still a slow knitter! A plain 160st round takes me about 7 minutes, so you can work out how long this 270-row thing will take, and then double it for Distractions. :)<br />
<br />
We'll get there. It's very soft!<br />
<br />

My main spin, since I was last here a month ago, was an attempt to get maximum yardage for the one Quidditch game where yardage counted, so I spun up this laceweight mix of "Get Happy" and "Silver Mine".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
It muted the bright pink and orange nicely, although I can't think what I'm going to do with 1174y/180g of laceweight. Probably Nply it into a useful 6ply ;)<br />
<br />
This one is Bond/Suri/Silk called High Hopes. Nice stuff to spin, with the bit of alpaca. Soft and fluffy.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">230y</td></tr>

<br />
I also pulled out the dye pots and dyed up some Stroll Sport sock yarn for the kids, which seems to be the perfect weight to make 54-stitch socks on my CSM.<br />
<br />
Byron's "black please" socks, which he agreed to let me add a teeny bit of "maybe light green" to.<br />
<br />

<br />
Jasmine's Fwooper socks (magical animals being the current Slytherin dormitory theme, due to the impending release of the "Fantastic Beasts" movie, and Fwoopers being my dorm.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/398983239/image_medium2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/398983239/image_medium2.jpeg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And Zac's bright green socks<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
Yesterday I cranked both Jasmine and Zac's yarn into tubes (80 minutes, including set up and putting away of CSM)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/405286611/14719799_1788707684782338_5356982811309899776_n_medium2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/Alrischa/405286611/14719799_1788707684782338_5356982811309899776_n_medium2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
and today I'm knitting Jasmine's toes.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
There's more. More knitting and weaving and spinning, not to mention purchases! Next time... ;)<br />
